Checking off our list...

First off, how is it August already?!?!
The weather has been less than desirable here in Michigan so far this summer but we are trying to make the best of it.  Back in June we made a summer bucket list and have been working on steadily marking things off, despite the crappy weather.
One of the things we wanted to do this summer was camp out.  So this weekend we decided to hold our 1'st annual campout right in our own backyard.  My sister and brother in law, Reece's and Graham's two cousins, Aly and Brady, joined us for the festivities.  Nana and Papa joined us for the BBQ and fire but decided their cozy beds were calling them home!
This is definitely the suburban way of camping with being steps away from cartoons, bathrooms, and a full kitchen, plus a lake and beach in the backyard!  (It was a good option for our first experience)
So we BBQed, threw water gallons, had a bonfire complete with s'mores, an evening cocktail cruise, and even managed a few meltdowns!  However, Reece was really disappointed because he wasn't able to sleep in the tent (by 10pm the adults were exhausted and all the kids were still wide awake so the executive decision was made that some separation was needed to make bedtime happen!) So we promise we would DO IT AGAIN!  However Aly and Brady slept the whole night in the tent!  And what campout would be complete without some morning swimming, a little paddle boarding, and chocolate chip pancakes and eggs with hash browns and another day on the lake.

A campout is not complete with of course an entire suitcase of dress up clothes:)!

The kids are getting comfy in their spots...

Papa exercising his lungs to get the fire going!

A few minutes of relaxing and enjoying the view

S'more time with the marshmallow option;)

A gorgeous sunset!

 Camp out...check!
Next week we are off to complete our last big summer bucket list item - a trip to Rainbow Lake in the Adirondack Mountains.  In the meantime we are trying to catch up on our summer reading and math worksheets, eekkk!
